Steve Fahrbach is an executive managing director with Newmark in San Francisco. He joins the retail real estate team with over two decades of achievement in commercial retail leasing, sales, and redevelopment for national super regional malls, lifestyle centers, grocery anchor centers, entertainment, big box retail centers and alternative uses. Steve’s nationally leased portfolio includes $3 billion in tenant sales across 12 states.
Steve came to Newmark from Starwood Retail Properties, where he most recently served as the Senior Director of Leasing and ranked among the top 3 leasing producers for 4 consecutive years. He directed initiatives for 5 Western Region shopping centers, executing marketing and leasing strategy for 5 million sq. ft. of total leasable space, including all leasing negotiations, development, redevelopment, merchandising, tenant coordination, budgeting and project management.
Among Steve’s recent projects was the redevelopment of Northridge Mall in Salinas, CA, which resulted in sales nearly doubling along with net income. Throughout his career, he’s worked with retailers expanding nationwide with extensive experience in the west coast, especially California and San Francisco Bay area.
Steve began his career in operations, expanding Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory across the west with the first 30 locations. Additionally, he managed a region of Mrs. Field Cookies stores prior to becoming a business broker in California.
Steve’s passion is working with retailers to strategically plan their expansion to ensure sustainable, long-term growth, while maximizing opportunities with experienced negotiations to minimize liability. He’s originally from Colorado, and currently based in the Bay Area. Steve is a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers and a licensed real estate agent in California.
